Since 2004, Tantalus has been crafting a focused portfolio of wines made with intention and authenticity, and guided by good land stewardship. With some of the country’s oldest vinifera plantings at the backbone of our home estate, Tantalus has carved out a reputation as a top Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir producer both in Canada, and abroad.

The concept of terroir, or sense of place

We’ve chosen to focus on making wines from Riesling, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay because we’re passionate about these varietals and because they’re very well suited to our vineyard conditions, based on geographic position, elevation and aspect. Our site is comprised of 75 acres of continuous land in South East Kelowna, of which 50 acres is under vine. There are 9 blocks on the property, each with its own distinct slope and aspect. Somewhat unusual for one site, these small undulations in the land make for great variation in grape flavours and intensity. Silt soils dominate and were deposited over gravels as a result of ancient glacial melt waters.
